前一陣子收拾舊雜志，翻到這篇德文的文章，覺得有它一定的時代意義，現在特翻譯在下面，野人現曝，以饗同好！

Als Kaliforniens Gouverneur Jerry Brown nach der Ölkrise von 1973 die Windmühlen als alternative Energiequelle anpries, wurde er als ökologischer Don Quichotte verlacht. Aber nicht lange. Untersuchungen bestätigen, daß Norkalifornien dank dem Klima-und Druckgefälle über kühlen Küsten und heißen Tälern in der Tat so ideale Windverhältnisse hat, daß es Verschwendung wäre, sie nicht zu nutzen.

Wagemutige Unternehmer, darunter ein Wirtschaftsexperte der CIA, ein Radiostations-besitzer und ein Modedesigner, stiegen in das neue Business ein. Inzwischen gibt es ein halbes Dutzend Windfarmen. Der Boom beginnt aber erst: Die Energiefirma “Pacific Gas and Electric” läßt sich östlich von Livermore ein Projekt von 600 Windmühlen mit einer Leistung von 90 Millionen Kilowattstunden pro Jahr bauen. Und die Flugzeugfirma Boeing arbeitet an einem Windturbinengenerator, dessen Rotor den Durchmesser eines Fußballfeldes hat. Bis 1994 will Kalifornien eine Windenergieleistung von 1000 Megawatt erreichen – die Kapazität eines Atomreaktors

當前美國加州州長杰瑞-布朗（Jerry Brown）在1973年石油危機后鼓動各界將風車當作替代能源時，備受眾人嘲笑， 封他為“環保唐吉訶德“ 但是，這些譏笑持續不了多久。旋踵，調研報告證實，北加州由於得天獨厚，同時擁有寒冷的海岸和炎熱的山谷，有著較大的溫度和氣壓的落差，事實上極為理想與風共舞，如果不去利用它的話，簡直就是暴殄天物！

一些膽子較大的企業家，包括一個CIA經濟專家，一個廣播電臺主人，以及一個時裝設計師，投入了這種新能源的生意。與此同時，當地涌現了半打風力發電的農場。但是，風力發電真正興旺起來，要算在能源大廠“Pacific Gas & Electric“ 啟動一項在利物磨(Livermore) 以東建立擁有 600座風車，其年發電量達9千萬千瓦小時 （kw-hr）的計劃，以及飛機製造巨擘波音公司在打造一個其轉輪直徑達一個棒球場之大的風力渦輪發電機之后。到1994年加利福尼亞州的風力發電量將達1000 百萬瓦 （Megawatt）-- 相當于一個核能電廠的發電量。

Countryside vs Village

City people all over the world tend to get away from the hustle and bustle of their routine city life on their vacations. I don’t know you much, but I bet you also do. Countryside is a more general antonym of city. A village is located in the countryside, and many villages, together with some towns, form the countryside. In other words, if you get away from the city, you enter the countryside.

Of course you can say: I am planning to go to a village on my vacation. But you can not omit the indefinite article ”a”. Or you can say: I am planning to go to a village called Slotino on my vacation. But none of the above sentences convey a more direct meaning of “getting away from the city life” than the one I chose: “I am planning to go to the countryside on my vacation”.

It would probably even be better to say: “I am planning to go to the countryside on my vacation, and I will be staying at a village called “xxxxx”.

中華保釣運動 vs. 日本大戰略

日前的釣魚臺海域中台灣漁船被日本艦艇撞沉一事，不僅在台灣引起許多人民的關注，更激蕩起不少“熱血中年”及“熱血老年”的熱情。相信如“王曉波”在台灣 TVBS 電視臺所表示的，很多“廉頗”類的“老保釣”都愿意重披戰袍，隨他奔赴東海，在釣魚臺上“不惜一戰”，或至少”不惜一站“吧！

熱血是要的，但更重要的是智慧，正如一個名嘴所說的，頭殼硬起來也許會把門撞破，走出被困的牢籠，但總是會弄得頭破血流，如果能找到別的方法，甚至鑰匙，就不至於犧牲那么大！

寫到這裡時，釣魚臺撞船事件已經有了很大的轉折，日方姿態已經放得比較低。但相信這也是在看到台海兩邊的人民群情激昂，也都相當團結的情勢下才做的改變，絕非一兩個日本通的說辭或日本主政者良心發現所造成的。 所以，團結就是力量，不和就要挨打！凡我同胞，切記切記！
